Louise Ledger, and former business partner Maree Petrie, began the business August 2000. They had identifed an opportunity in the market to provide an alternative form of finance to borrowers in the South Island. The Auckland market was provided for by a number of non bank lenders but Christchurch’s choice was entirely limited.

Although operating from a head office in Christchurch, Global Home Loans is not restricted to the Canterbury area. We operate on a national basis with our portfolio stretching from Kaikohe in the north to Invercargill in the South.

Clients choose from a comprehensive range of loan products, which are funded through two international wholesale fund providers. This style of finance allows us to also offer specialty products, including self verified income for self employed and 100% funding.

Our mortgages are held in Trust for the security of our clients.

“My initiation into mortgage banking came from originally operating a brokering company. I became quickly aware of the limits in Christchurch and the South Island of a serious non bank lending company. Through amalgamations, many Banks lost their ability to offer a personal service and maintain a focus on the importance on each customer as individuals. My business partner and I were those customers too, it happened to us and we know how it felt.

In establishing Global Home Loans we saw the opportunity to change that. Now as a mortgage Banker, my focus is on building a company that is honest and sincere in its approach to its customers. Because of our structure we are able to maintain a personal interest in each loan and each customer, always being accessible. I am personally at the front line - my aim is to take an active role in the relationships with our clients.

It is exciting and rewarding making a difference. I love it when clients just call in any time - especially when they feel so welcome they make their own coffee. Try and do that at a bank!”
